Daytona International Speedway
Another gorgeous Florida day at Daytona.
While everyone is aware that the Daytona 500 takes place at the Daytona International Speedway, not everyone realizes that a facility this enormous needs to be used year around in order to be sustainable. If you can't make it to the Daytona 500 race, you can still see the Daytona International Speedway in action nearly any day of the year.
There are nine weekends of major racing events that range from NASCAR to go karts and motorcycles. It is also home to many events and shows that bring people into the facility to participate in car shows, civic gatherings or athletic events. Product testing and police training also take place on a regular basis at the Daytona International Speedway.
Daytona USA opened nearly ten years ago to provide tourists with an opportunity to learn about the history of racing at Daytona. While you are at the museum be sure to check out the IMAX theatre where you will have a wild ride with the NASCAR 3D experience. Of course, no trip to a speedway would be complete without an opportunity to test your skills out on the track. There are 80 percent scale stock cars available to drive as well as simulators of what it's like to drive a NASCAR stock car or to be a part of a pit crew.
If your trip to Daytona coincides with Daytona Bike Week be prepared for a full range of excitement at the Speedway. There are two full weeks of bike races that culminate with the Honda 200 and the Daytona Supercross.
The Grand Daddy of all NASCAR races take place each year during Speedweek. The Daytona 500 is the richest, most important race in the entire NASCAR schedule. The really unusual thing about the Daytona 500 is that it starts off the NASCAR year rather than finishing it as all other sporting events might do.
Everyone wants to be a winner at the Daytona International Speedway. Richard Petty won seven times, making him the winner of the most Daytona 500 races during his great career. While some NASCAR legends make Daytona wins look routine others find victory lane more elusive. Did you know that it took 20 years before Dale Earnhardt could claim victory at the 500?
It does not matter when you come to Daytona since there are so many things to see and do during your visit to the Daytona International Speedway. There are 480 acres of space filled with excitement and fun. Pick your best time to visit Daytona Beach, Florida and take the time to see why so many race fans feel that this track is at the top of their places to visit.
